No matter how you motivated we feel on one particular day to achieve all our dreams there is always that one day where you just don’t. Well constant motivation isn’t something that is spoon fed. You go out looking for it yourself. TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives TED talks are a great place to find any kind of inspiration because well, let’s face it, listening to successful people talk about something you are passionate about lifts up your spirits no matter what time of the day. Some people might be looking for hope, some for ideas, some to just get pumped and some to even just sit back and have a good time. So for a UX designer or anyone looking to get some design inspiration, what are some of the good TED talks that you shouldn’t miss? Let’s Find out.

  1. The three ways that good design makes you happy | Don Norman

Don Norman Director of “The design labs” in UCSD is truly an intriguing man. Although this video being one of the older ones in design is one that anyone associating with design must watch. Norman turns his incisive eye toward beauty, fun, pleasure and emotion, as he looks at design that makes people happy. He names the three emotional cues that a well-designed product must hit to succeed.

He explains unsaid concepts of behavior with very simple examples and the humour and wit oozing throughout the talk makes the experience even more pleasant.

2. The first secret of great design | Tony Fadell

Here is a man who served as the Senior Vice President of the iPod division at Apple Inc., “Tony” Fadell is an American inventor, designer, entrepreneur, and investor. He emphasises the fact that when a group of people get used to something is when opportunities are created for designers to make the same thing even better. He talks about how noticing the little things make a designer, entrepreneur or inventor to design or create something better and better. This is the kind of video that pushes you to think outside the box.

3. Design for All 5 Senses | Jinsop Lee | TED Talks

Jinsop Lee talks about how he started to evaluate every experience of his life with the point of view of the five senses which lead him to come to one of the biggest findings of design — great design appeals to all five senses. This is light, interesting and definitely worth adding to your playlist.

4. Margaret Gould Stewart: How giant websites design for you (and a billion others, too)

Market Gould stewart is a product design expert. Here she talks about designing experiences that touch lives. In this engaging and insightful talk, she passionately explains about the intricacies of designing work carried out by the huge websites like YouTube, Facebook etc She narrates the story of why design elements of some of the most popular websites were created and emphasises on the importance of tiny details in design elements. One of the most fundamental things about user experience design is that you need to see hear and understand the people you are designing to improve and evolve products.

5. Ze Frank’s web playroom

Are the relationships we make online really meaningful, asks web artist Ze Frank? He explores a range of amusing methods to connect through the internet. He wants to tell designers that we can make web tools and environments that bring about deep connections even at a virtual level with “deep participation”. To feel and to be felt is not just limited to physical spaces but to the virtual spaces in our lives. This is a very fun video podcasts that gives you a little bit of music and dancing as well.
